Seminar on the NSFC International Cooperation and Exchange Project “Exploring the Potential of Mass-Market High-Precision GNSS for Geoscience Applications” Successfully Conducted

    The seminar on the NSFC International Cooperation and Exchange Project " Exploring the Potential of Mass-Market High-Precision GNSS for Geoscience Applications" took place on May 13, 2025, at Wuhan University’s GNSS Research Center. Scholars from China, Poland, and the Netherlands participated, exchanging insights on recent developments in mass-market GNSS technology.

    The seminar officially commenced at 9:00 a.m. Prof. Jianghui Geng, the principal investigator of the project, delivered the opening remarks and provided a comprehensive overview of the project’s general status. Prof. Geng highlighted the research progress made in the project’s four sub-themes and outlined the key research priorities and directions for the next phase. Internationally renowned experts, including Prof. Jacek Paziewski and Prof. Pawel Wielgosz from the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, Poland, as well as domestic scholars such as Prof. Xiaoji Niu and Prof. Pai Wang from Wuhan University, and Associate Prof. Guangcai Li from the Innovation Academy for Precision Measurement Science and Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, also attended the meeting.

    During the academic exchange session, Prof. Paziewski presented his team’s technical contributions to GNSS-based dynamic displacement monitoring and highlighted its innovative applications in structural health monitoring.

    Associate Prof. Guangcai Li shared the latest research findings on achieving high-precision deformation monitoring using mass-market GNSS and accelerometers.

    Dr. Lotfi Massarweh presented the latest open-source toolbox named LAMBDA 4.0 from his team.

    Dr. Xinlei Luo from the PRIDE introduced a novel method for recovering high-precision seismic torsion by integrating MEMS gyroscope with GNSS dual-antenna.

    The seminar was marked by a strong academic atmosphere, with participants engaging in in-depth discussions on cutting-edge topics such as performance optimization of mass-market sensors and multi-source data fusion algorithms. The attendees unanimously agreed that, with continuous technological advancements, mass-market high-precision BeiDou/GNSS devices will play an increasingly important role in geosciences.

    After the seminar, the Polish experts, accompanied by Prof. Pai Wang, Associate Prof. Guangcai Li, and Dr. Xinlei Luo, visited the hardware laboratory of the PRIDE. They gained an in-depth understanding of the characteristics and applications of outdoor experimental equipment such as the shake table and strong-motion seismograph.

    The seminar not only provided an important platform for the PRIDE to showcase their scientific achievements but also deepened the exchange and cooperation between Chinese and Polish scholars in the field of mass-market BeiDou/GNSS navigation technology. The participants expressed their commitment to strengthen scientific collaboration further and jointly advance the theoretical and applied development of mass-market BeiDou/GNSS technologies in the future.
