On 19 January 2024, a collaborative paper led by the School of Earth and Space Sciences, Peking University, with Prof. Jianghui Geng as co-author was published in the international academic journal Science, entitled "Super-shear triggering and cascading fault ruptures of the 2023 Kahramanmaraş, Türkiye earthquake doublet". Super-shear triggering and cascading fault ruptures of the 2023 Kahramanmaraş, Türkiye earthquake doublet". The GNSS data were solved by the PRIDE PPP-AR open source software.

Starting from the understanding of the rupture process of a large earthquake and the identification of the triggering mechanism that caused the rupture of the entire fault system, the paper reconstructs a detailed image of the spatial and temporal evolution of the rupture of the 6 February 2023 Turkey earthquake doublet by integrating and analyzing a variety of data such as seismic waves, Satellite Positioning System (GPS), and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) observations during the earthquake doublet. The special rupture process and triggering relationship reported in the work provide important references for the study of the seismogenic mechanism of large earthquakes, the cascade rupture process and mechanism of large earthquakes, and earthquake mitigation engineering.
