On April 10, 2026, the comprehensive performance evaluation meeting of the National Key Research and Development Program (14th Five-Year Plan) “Earth Observation and Navigation” key special project, “Componentized Flexible Integrated Navigation and Control Key Technology and Application Verification”, was successfully held in Wuhan. The project is led by Prof. Geng Jianghui from the GNSS Research Center, Wuhan University.
Xu Hong, Director of the “Earth Observation and Navigation” Special Program, Ke Xinyi, the program officer, and Liu Jingnan, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and project advisor, were invited to attend the meeting. Wang Xiaochuan, Deputy Director, Mao Xudong, Director of the Research Project Management Office of Wuhan University, and Prof. Lou Yidong, Deputy Director of the GNSS Research Center, also attended the meeting.
Li Bofeng, Professor of Tongji University, was invited as the leader of the expert group. The members of the expert group included: Lai Jizhou, Professor of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics; Deng Zhixin, Researcher of the 54th Research Institute of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation; Zeng Anmin, Researcher of Xi’an Research Institute of Surveying and Mapping; Wang Bo, Professor of Beijing Institute of Technology; Xu Haigang, Researcher of China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation; and Xue Shuqiang, Researcher of Chinese Academy of Surveying and Mapping. More than 30 participants, including principal investigators and core members of the project, attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Li Bofeng.
At the meeting, Wang Xiaochuan delivered an opening speech and fully affirmed the effectiveness of the project implementation. Xu Hong introduced the requirements for the comprehensive performance evaluation and announced the list of expert group members. Subsequently, Prof. Geng Jianghui reported on the overall project objectives, including the completion of assessment indicators, representative achievements and innovations, application outcomes and socio-economic benefits, as well as project organization and management, talent cultivation, and budget execution.
The expert group carefully listened to the report, reviewed the evaluation materials in detail, watched demonstration videos of the project results, and conducted on-site inspections of the developed systems, including the componentized PNT hardware platform, sensor expansion modules, domestically developed intelligent computing boards, as well as experimental validation platforms such as UAVs, unmanned vehicles, and unmanned surface vessels.
After thorough questioning and discussion, the expert group unanimously agreed that the project was well organized with a sound technical approach, and had successfully completed all planned research tasks, achieving and partially exceeding the expected objectives.
In his concluding remarks, Xu Hong emphasized that the project team should further support the evaluation of the 14th Five-Year Plan programs, strengthen the consolidation and archiving of project materials, promote the application of key technologies, and continuously advance research in response to major national strategic needs.
At the end of the meeting, Academician Liu Jingnan highly praised the achievements of the project, noting that it has made important innovations in componentized PNT system architecture and resilient integrated navigation technologies, and provides strong support for enhancing China’s autonomous navigation capability in complex environments. He also suggested further strengthening technology transfer and engineering application, and continuously improving the practicality and scalability of the system.
Prof. Geng Jianghui expressed sincere gratitude to Academician Liu and the expert group for their guidance and suggestions, and stated that the project team will continue to promote key technology research and improve project outcomes, accelerate technology transfer and application, and further enhance the project’s support for major national needs.
